About Ghana
Ghana, formerly Gold Coast is a country located in West Africa on the Coast of the Gulf of Guinea, west of Togo, south of Burkina Faso and east of Ivory Coast.

Ghana gained its independence from the British on 6th March 1957. The Ghana flag is made up of three colors- Red, Gold and Green, signifying the blood shed by our forefathers, the rich resources of the country and the rich vegetation respectively. The flag also has a black star in the middle, which signifies African emancipation and unity in the struggle against colonialism.

The Ghana coat of Arms is composed of a shield, divided into four quarters rimmed with gold. The following are the symbols in the quarters and their interpretation. The Coat of arms consists of a Crossed linguist staff and ceremonial sword on a blue background, which is on the top left-hand quarter. Represents local administration. There is also a heraldic castle a light blue background that is on the top right-hand. Represents National Government. The cocoa tree, which is on the bottom left-hand quarter, represents the Agricultural wealth of the country, and the mine Shaft at the bottom right hand quarter represents the mineral wealth of the country.

The Kente cloth, which, is now seen all over the world originated form Ghana and is woven using the same technique the spider, uses to weave its web.

The common Ghanaian dishes which are from different parts of the ten regions in Ghana include fufu, banku, kelewele, kenkey.

The Ghana Blackstars are one of the best soccer teams in Africa, and just this year, 2008 FIFA ranked Ghana number 14 of the world’s soccer teams.

The nightlife and party scene can be compared to that of large cities in the worlds, some of the major nightclubs and spots are Celsbridge, Boomerang, Afridisiac and The Office in Accra and Kiravi in Kumasi. Ghana also has the best tourist attractions, beautiful beaches, old castles and the famous Kakum national park Canopy.
